We drilled a well and overall the water seemed great with the exception of iron. Our hot water always appeared dirty and even the cold would turn orange within a couple of hours. There were also small pieces of coal which seemed to wreck havoc on our faucets and toilet. I could also smell what I can only describe as a "metallic odor" in the water. We had a guy do a simple test and told us we had 8 ppm of iron.

I researched and researched. I was a bit hesitant to try this because one internet source said these filters would clog up within a year's time but the same source was also selling a $3,000.00 hydrogen peroxide injection system. Others seemed to have good success.

The installation was easy. I was a bit concerned about the medium possibly damaging the top of the tank. When I unscrewed the cap, I could tell there was some grit in the threads. It took just a little over an hour but I got everything together and absolutely no leaks. I backwashed 2 times and it was clear. We flushed our inside lines for about 15 minutes. The cold was absolutely clear. However, I had to flush out our hot water heater about 3 times d/t all the sediment from the previous water.

The result? Our water is pristine. We couldn't be any happier. We left a cup of water out for 24 hours--absolutely no color change. I have attached a picture. Both cold and hot water are clear as can be. There is also no more odor in the water. I strongly recommend this. I know other reviewers stated that they would give an update but I think they may have forgotten. I will do my best though to remember to update my review in a year. So far, it is great!

  3. So far, so OUTSTANDING

The items you'll need are: 1/2" I.D. tubing for back flush discharge (10 foot length for my setup), copper 3/4" fittings to modify my current softener plumbing, a 1/2" hose clamp, and flexible supply lines. These were all explained in the installation video, had I bothered to watch it.
As for the flexible supply lines, I had originally intended to hard plumb everything. In fact, I started down that road only to realize that the bypass valve had the inlet and outlet flipped from what I needed. Yes, I could have sweated pipes to cross over, but that added extra joints that I thought might impede the flow of water. So, I removed the copper and installed the flex. Less corners, well, you get it.
So, how does it work??? So far, and it has only been installed for a few hours, it is working GREAT. Because I still have some "old" nasty water in my system, primarily in the water heater, I expect a continued improvement. That said, here's the numbers I'm getting now with my basic TDS water tester.
Prior to install, 967 TDS filtered but not run thru the softener. Approximately 365 after softener.
Now, with the added Iron Eater: 101 TDS!!! Again, I still have bad water in the system, so this should improve. Either way, I will update my review in a week or so.
Conclusion: I was skeptical that this system would perform as advertised. However, it has exceeded my expectations. The installation process was super easy. I mean, SUPER easy.
Highly recommend this system and Oceanic was outstanding!
